Katie Holmes has suffered a mystery cold sore break-out, just days after she started dating Tom Cruise.

The 'Dawson's Creek' beauty, who has just returned from a romantic break in Rome with her new lover, was photographed with the painful pustules around her mouth after being snapped in a string of clinches with the heartthrob star.

Meanwhile, sexy Katie has received her family's seal of approval for her new romance.

The 26-year-old actress split from her fiancé, 'American Pie' star Chris Klein, earlier this year - but her father has given his backing to her new high profile relationship, despite a 16-year age gap.

Lawyer Marty Holmes said: "As parents, we are very excited for both of them. Anybody that has been breathing for the past 20 years knows about Tom Cruise.

"Age is not a factor. Katie is a very mature young lady with a good head on her shoulders."
