Sony Pictures Entertainment has set a date for Spiderman 3 and given cast details for the webslinger's third outing, before the second film has even been released.
Tobey Maguire will still be onboard as the superhero and Kirsten Dunst remains his love interest. Sam Raimi returns to direct.
Vice chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment, Jeff Blake, said the company is "so excited" about "Spiderman 2," the sequel to the 2002 box office smash "Spiderman," that it will be debuting the film two days earlier than planned, on June 30th.
"We set out to make a movie that had the excitement, humour and the humanity of the first movie - times two," said producer Laura Ziskin.
The first film still holds the US record for the biggest box office debut over a three-day weekend, with challenges from "Harry Potter", "Lord of the Rings" and "The Passion" falling by the wayside.
It took just under $115 million (63.5 million) in three days.
