Richard Madeley and Judy Finnegan are reportedly considering roles in the glamourous soap, Footballers' Wives.

The king and queen of daytime TV have been offered a guest appearance in the fifth series of the ITV drama, claims The Sun.

The paper claims the pair were approached by the show's producers after interviewing one of its stars, Gillian Taylforth and showing her a spoof clip of themselves appearing in the drama.

A spokesman for Richard and Judy told The Sun the couple were in talks with Footballers' Wives maker Shed Productions.

"We're in talks with Shed. Richard and Judy love the show and are really excited," he said.

Shed confirmed that they had approached the daytime TV hosts.

"We're thinking up ideas. We thought it would be great if one of the wives actually learned to read and she could take part in their book club," the company said.

The fourth series of Footballers' Wives starts next Thursday.
