YouGov has recently conducted a survey with the aim to know if Britons are willing to grant their family members access to their social media accounts when they die. The results reveal that majority of the British public said NO.
52per cent of the respondents said that they’ve never shared their password to anyone while 35per cent said that their partner or their spouse will be able to access their account should they die. Meanwhile, nobody answered yes when asked if they will trust their boss with their social media passwords.
When people die, their Facebook account remains active and although Facebook will not take over their accounts, it can use all your videos and pictures until your account is deleted. For this reason, your smiling face may still become visible from the “Your Friends List This” box. Unless you give anybody the permission to access and delete your account after your kick the bucket, all your family members could do is to ask Facebook to take down or memorialise your page.
