Coronation Street's jailbird bad girl Tracy Barlow will be in the centre of a violent plotline in the coming weeks.

It has been reported that the villain will be left fighting for her life after being beaten by a gang in jail.

According to The Sun, Tracy's troubles start when she tries to help the police to frame Gail McIntyre (Helen Worth) for the murder of her husband Joe (Reece Dinsdale), in order to get her own sentence for murder reduced.

Tracy shares a cell with Gail, allowing her to bond with her and give up information before she falsifies evidence.

However, her plan backfires when a gang within the jail become suspicious and become determined to serve up its own brand of justice to the schemer.

A source said: "Tracy is horrified when she realises the girls have rumbled her twisted plan."

"She's brazen and never had any trouble in jail before, but this really shakes her."

"There is no way of escaping the angry mob and she takes the beating of a lifetime. It's touch-and-go whether she survives."
