Coronation Street's tame Norris Cole (Malcolm Hebden) will be kidnapped and imprisoned against his will by a deranged admirer in a forthcoming plot.
The scenes, which play out like Stephen King's hit thriller 'Misery' whereby a novelist is held captive, drugged and tortured by an obsessive fan in a mountain retreat, will see Noris' No 1 follower Mary Taylor (Patti Clare) take drastic action.
Norris makes the mistake of agreeing to go on holiday with her to a remote cottage near Haworth where the Bront sisters wrote their classic novels including 'Wuthering Heights', but then she traps the timid shopkeeper.
Mary sabotages the car and phone before becoming increasingly violent when Norris suggests going out for help.
A Corrie source said: "Mary convinces herself they are reincarnations of Heathcliffe and Cathy and keeps trying to share his bed.
"Norris escapes to a phone box. When Mary arrives he tries to run and hide but falls and sprains his ankle. Mary refuses to take him to hospital and returns him to the cottage telling him: "The more helpless you are the stronger I get."
Norris begins to panic after he spots her in the yard with an axe. He then barricades himself in and awaits his fate.
The Corrie source added: "At first viewers will be amused by Norris's plight. But they'll soon realise that Mary is seriously demented."
