The bass player for the popular American metal band Slipknot has been found dead in a hotel room in Des Moines, Iowa, police say.
Paul Gray's body was discovered by a hotel employee. Police, while not confirming the cause of death, have said that foul play was not suspected.
The 38-year-old musician will be given an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
The band, who are famous for wearing masks onstage and off as well as their extreme stage performances, won a Grammy in 2006 for the song 'Before I Forget'. Their latest album 'All Hope Is Gone' took the No 1 slot in 9 territories.
Most of the band members come from the Des Moines area. Gray was a founding member of the band. Each member of Slipknot refered to each other with a number - Gray was No 2.
Local radio station director Andy Hall, who knew the late musician for a decade stated: "This is a big blow, not only to the community of Des Moines but fans of metal at large, worldwide.
"It's a devastating loss. Paul was a wonderful human being."
Neil Portnow, president of the Recording Academy, which manages the Grammys said: "The heavy metal world has lost an immense talent, and Slipknot's loyal following will ensure he and his music are remembered for years to come."
