Far too often, naïve and inexperienced students are treated like scum by letting agencies and landlords. End this now by simply keeping in mind the six most important things when deciding on student accommodation.
.The housemates – Take your time when deciding who’d you like to share your room with. To make a well-informed decision, spend time with potential housemates and learn more about them. Are they responsible? Do they pay their bills on time? A little research can go a long way.
.Location and safety. Find an accommodation that is both strategically located near the school and safe. It must not only convenient but it must also be away from distractions such as clubs.
.Budget. Take the time to check rates and compare. When you find a potential accommodation, discuss financial matters with your potential landlords. What is included in your monthly rent? What are the requirements to get your deposit back?
.Get as much information about the landlord and letting agency as possible. Do a survey and talk to current tenants when possible. You would want to know how their landlords respond to certain problems like fixing the shower or the leaky tap.
.Check everything. Before you commit, check the everything including the tap, the water pressure, the security alarm system, etc.
.Read the contract. Make sure that you fully understand everything that is stated in your contract. What is expected of you and what are your rights?
