Simpson fires publicist

Jessica Simpson's dad has fired her publicist.

Joe Simpson was reportedly furious with Rob Shuter over the way he handled the alleged romance between his daughter and singer-songwriter John Mayer, according to E! Online.

Earlier this week, Jessica told talk show 'The View': "I am actually not dating John Mayer."

That was followed by reports claiming John had dumped the 'Dukes of Hazzard' actress.

A source close the Simpson family told Radar magazine: "The story was 100 per cent Shuter.

"He broke all the rules of the game. I wonder how much Jessica even knew what he was up to."

According to TMZ.com a source said: "The Simpson camp has been unhappy with Shuter's performance for some time and the Mayer incident was the last straw of a series of events leading up to the firing."

However, the confusion hasn't stopped Joe from commenting on the alleged romance.

He said: "If my daughter's happy, then I'm happy. If she's in love, then I'm in love with the fact that she has found happiness. It's been a tough year for her."

Neither Rob Shuter or Joe Simpson were available for comment.
