Fans of Game of Thrones were dumbfounded after one of its biggest characters was killed off in the season five finale. Jon Snow, played by British actor Kit Harington, was murdered by men of the Night’s Show. The final scene showed Olly, Snow’s younger protégé, deliver the final blow, with the lifeless Lord Commander left lying in the snow.
Harington then confirmed through Entertainment Weekly that his character will not be coming back, crushing fans hope to see him again next season.
He said: "I'm dead. I'm not coming back next season."
"I kind of knew it was coming. I didn't read [George RR Martin's novel] A Dance with Dragons. But I read the other books and I had heard this is what happens.
"So I had an inkling it should be this season. I didn't realise it would be the final shot of the season and that made it extra special.
"I loved how they brought Olly in to be the person who kills me."
He added that he was informed by the show’s creators that his character will die.
"We did the Tony Soprano walk [to tell an actor they're going to die]. And they said, 'Look, you're gone, it's done.'"
