A new survey conducted by money transfer service Xendpay has revealed the top 10 stingiest cities in the United Kingdom when it comes to tipping.
Holding the dubious honour of the number one spot is Gloucester where one in four people said that they would not tip under any circumstances.
Newcastle, Edinburgh, Glasgow, York, and Swansea also made it to the list with 19per cent of diners saying that they never leave a bit of spare change after a meal.
Rajesh Agrawal, CEO of Xendpay said: ‘On the whole the poll shows Brits are ready to put their hand in their pockets, but if you are working for tips in certain areas, the odds are slightly more stacked against you.’
London, which is considered the most expensive cities in the world with an array of restaurants and other services around nearly every corner, surprisingly made it to the list after only 18per cent Londoners said they would leave a tip.
Mr Agrawal continued: ‘Some people may expect London to be the toughest market for tips but this shows otherwise.
‘Tipping varies between cultures and is an important transaction for people on both sides.’
‘The UK does appear to be getting more comfortable with the notion of tipping, but it is still surprising some people deciding how much to give is a hassle or is confusing.’
