American military scientists are now completing initial testing on a bullet that can change direction mid-flight.
The .50 sniper’s bullet, which is dubbed as the “marksman’s dream” switches trajectory based on the movements of its target.
The shooter first shines a laser at the intended victim and sensors on the four-inch bullet lock on to the beam. The beam continues to track the target after the bullet is fired as signals are sent to the speeding ammo.
Darpa, which claims it is the world’s first guided bullet, said: “The Exacto .50-caliber round and optical sighting technology expects to greatly extend the range over current state-of-the-art systems.”
US-based Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency has released a video of the bullet under its full name of the Extreme Accuracy Tasked Ordnance.
