BBC News School Report and BBC Radio 5 live have challenged more than 1,000 students to turn off their technology for a week-long "digital detox."
The former BBC Newsreader made the startling confession to his campmates on Wednesday, it has now been revealed.
The move is part of £800m efficiency savings required after the license fee was frozen in 2010.
BBC reports: "Viewers complained that they (BBC commentators) cheered when Jones's competitors fell, and that the commentary was of a low standard.
