Apple has lost its battle in its long running patent war with Samsung electronics after US International Trade Commission has ruled that the hi-tech giant infringed on a Samsung patent. As a result, the imports of Apple’s iPhone 4 and a variant of the iPad 2 may be banned.
President Obama has 60 days to review the ruling. However, he already said that he does not think the ITC should have the power to impose important bands in such cases.
The ITC found that Apple’s said devices violate a patent essential for 3G services, which is owned by rival Samsung Electronics. The import ban will prevent Apple from selling the products in the US.
Apple said that it was disappointed with the ruling.
"Samsung is using a strategy which has been rejected by courts and regulators around the world," Apple said.
"They've admitted that it's against the interests of consumers in Europe and elsewhere, yet here in the United States Samsung continues to try to block the sale of Apple products by using patents they agreed to license to anyone for a reasonable fee."
