Samsung has unveiled a new smartwatch giving the Apple Watch its newest rival in the ongoing wearable battle. The new Gear S2 is circular, pitting it more against the likes of LG’s Watch Urbane. However, it contains a unique control method, just like Apple Watch, that goes beyond just jabbing the 1.2-inch screen with your finger.
It features a rotating bezel, which can be used to scroll through notifications or menu options. It also offers 4GB of internal memory, 512MB of RAM and a battery that, Samsung says, lasts for 2-3 days. It also has NFC (near-field communication) which means it can be used for wireless payments.
"It's the first-ever watch with voice capability and a host of connected features like being able to make calls without the need for a smartphone," said Conor Pierce, vice president, IT & Mobile Division for Samsung Electronics UK and Ireland.
The price and the date of release of the gadget is yet to be revealed.
