In the latest news about crisis in Syria, US President Barack Obama had to put his military action plan on hold after Syria welcomed the initiative of placing its chemical weapons under international control. Russia, on the other hand, handed over its plan of making the chemical weapons safe to the United States. At the United Nations, tense negotiations on the nature of any Security Council resolution are to be expected.
A Russian source, which was quoted by Russian news agencies said: "We handed over to the Americans a plan to place chemical weapons in Syria under international control. We expect to discuss it in Geneva."
US Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who spoke on the telephone on Wednesday, are expected to discuss the proposal in Geneva on Thursday.
A source said: "It appears that the meeting should start on Thursday and end on Friday, although it is not ruled out that it may last until Saturday." The source added that meeting will not involve the UN. Other than that, no other details were released.
