Russell Crowe has revealed his life has turned around since he became a father.

The tough guy actor says he is overjoyed by the unconditional love shown by his 18-month-old son.

He revealed: "Every day of my life I get 40 or 50 extra cuddles. I don't know how I used to survive without them."

Last year, Russell confessed he had written a heartfelt open letter to Charles to mark his first birthday.

The Hollywood star, who is married to Australian actress Danielle Spencer, showed his softer side in the birthday message, which read: "Dear Charlie, our beautiful boy. You were born a year ago and it has been the most wonderful year.

"You are a very special little boy - so affectionate and lovely.

"I'm going to wake you up in a minute and give you your First Birthday Bottle.

"Thank you for coming into my life, Charlie Boonker. I love you. Dad."

Before Charles' birth in December 2003, the New Zealand-born actor never made a secret of his yearning to become a father, saying it was one of the reasons for marrying Danielle.
