Rod Stewart has splashed out on a French love nest - just weeks after announcing he is to become a father for the seventh time.

The rock legend, famed for his frugal nature, has spent more than £3million on the lavish pad in the south of France.

Rod is set to wed fiancée Penny Lancaster, 29 years his junior, in December - three months after she gives birth to their first child.

Earlier this month, the smitten couple, who have been together for five years, confirmed news of their new arrival after weeks of rumours.

The 60-year-old rocker said he was "overjoyed and extremely proud" that Penny, 31, was carrying his child.

Rod reportedly proposed to the model in March after discovering she was pregnant.

Penny was later seen taking a baby scan photo from her handbag, according to onlookers.

Days later, Rod quipped: "We've thought about having children, but I'll have to see how much I've saved up."
