Robert Pattinson has been cast to play the role of Lawrence of Arabia in a forthcoming film. This means the Twilight star will now follow in the footsteps of legendary actor Peter O’Toole.
Lawrence of Arabia refers to British army officer TE Lawrence, a character in the Queen of the Desert, a movie by Werner Herzog. Robert will star in the new movie along with Naomi Watts of King Kong fame. Watts will play the role of Gertrude Bell - a pioneering female graduate from Oxford University who travelled around the Middle East as an archaeologist, explorer, cartographer, and political officer.
The film will focus on the lives of Bell and Lawrence, who together established the Hashemite dynasties in Iraq and Jordan.
Reports say that filming will begin in the autumn, and that Ridley Scott is currently developing another film that focuses more on Watts’ character.
The news comes in the wake of Robert Pattinson’s infamously awkward interview on The Daily Show with talk show host Jon Stewart in which the young actor swerved away from any talk of ex-beau Kristen Stewart.
While Rob is enjoying great casting news, Kristen, on the other hand, is dealing with the rumours of her being dropped out of the Snow White and the Huntsman sequel.
