(BANG) - Robbie Williams' childhood sweetheart has revealed how he ditched her after begging her to give up her life for him.

Model Rachel Gilson was told by the pop star that she was "The One" and was talked into abandoning her boyfriend to set up home with Williams in Los Angeles.

But after just five days Robbie told her it wasn't working.

The 33-year-old model says she was left shocked by the star's odd behaviour and insists he is too famous to have a real relationship.

The beautiful brunette told Britain's Sunday Mirror newspaper: "I thought it was for real. But he's just too famous for it to work. It's heartbreaking.

"We are two people who should be together, but we just can't work it out. I don't think we'll ever get married. It would be the best story ever, but I don't ever think it's going to happen."

A friend of Rachel said: "She loves Rob and he loves her but she knows it's destroying them both. She blames his eccentric behaviour."

A spokesperson for Robbie admitted Rachel visited the star in the summer.
