After eight long years, Robbie Williams was able to re-claim the number one spot as his single ‘Candy’ topped the official singles chart. Selling 137,000 copies ‘Candy’ is officially the fastest-selling single by a male artist this year based on the Official Charts Company.
This is the 7th solo number one for Robbie. The singer was obviously delighted with the warm response from his fans. He told OfficialCharts.com: “Good work Team Williams and thanks to everyone who got it there.”
He added: “I'm so excited about this album and this is a great start.”
His new album, Take The Crown, is released on Monday.
Robbie has sold 60million albums and has won 12 Brit Awards since he went solo.
Prior to the Take The Crown album, the singer released two albums that were not as well received as his previous albums.
In 2010, Robbie reunited with his Take That band mates and made history with their record-breaking Progress UK stadium tour in 2011.
Other singers who have made it to the chart this week include Emeli Sande, who slipped back into second place, and Adele for her James Bond theme tune ‘Skyfall’.
