Robbie Williams has reunited with his old Take That band mates, 14 years after he quit the group to forge a solo career.
The boyband members met up in New York for Mark Owen's stag party but also spent time in Jimi Hendrix's Electric Lady Studios to work on new material, the Daily Mirror has uncovered.
A source said: "They're back in the studio and they're writing together. Robbie wouldn't be happy performing old Take That songs he has had no part in.
"But if they can pen some new tracks that they're all happy with, they'll record new material and he'll be back with them on stage.
"The lads did want to celebrate Mark's stag do but it was more of a ruse than anything.
"They thought it was the best place to hook up and start writing again, without attracting too much attention.
"They are nowhere near recording anything. This was just a writing session."
Robbie, who is set to play his first UK gig in three years at London's Roundhouse in October had hinted that the five might be back together for a one-off special appearance next month for Children In Need at London's Royal Albert Hall.
He admitted: "Yes, something is definitely going to happen. Me and Gary have been hanging out a lot lately, talking things over."
The star also told Radio 1's Chris Moyles: "I thought I'll just hold off and get my album out and then go and play with my mates."
