Rebekah Brooks, who left News International last year over phone hacking scandal, reportedly received £7million severance package, which included legal fees, pension payments, and chauffeur-driven car according to Daily Mail.
The news comes as she and Andy Coulson are awaiting trial over allegations linked to phone hacking.
Ms Brooks is accused of concealing information critical to the police investigation involving phone hacking and corruption of public officials who allegedly received money from The Sun and the News of the World.
It can be remembered that more than six years ago, News of the World staff allegedly conspired to hack the voicemail of celebrities and the voicemail of Milly Dowler; a young girl who was murdered in 2002. Rebekah was the tabloid’s editor when this happened.
News about Rebekah’s “golden goodbye” emerged a day before News Corp, News International’s parent group general meeting. This news is expected to rile investors.
