Radio star ‘brutally killed’

The "brutally murdered" body of Nasim Jamil, a 54-year-old Asian radio presenter, has been discovered by family members at her home in Glasgow.

Jamil worked on Asian radio station Awaz FM.

Strathclyde Police are investigating the crime. CCTV footage from the area is being studied and forensic evidence has been collected.

Jamil, who was widowed and lived with her daughter, was discovered in her third-floor flat. She was said to have been a popular member of the community.

Det Ch Insp Louise Raphael said: "This was a particularly brutal murder and the person or persons responsible must be caught."

"We will also be studying CCTV in the Byres Road area to identify pedestrians and motorists who were in the area on Wednesday."

Awaz FM is aimed at the Asian population in Glasgow and broadcasts in Urdu, Punjabi and English.

Jamil had worked there since 2004. She presented the programme 'Yaadon Ka Phool' on food and on reuniting broken families.

Her colleague Charanjit Sangha, community relations manager at the station, said: "We heard of her death last night and were all in shock. She was just an amazing person. She was a really hard worker and it is such a loss.

"She was so close to everyone and a loving person."

Jamil had previously written of her love of her job on the station's website: "When I joined the radio I wanted to do such a programme where I could reunite broken families.

"I set this as my main goal of my programme and managed to fulfil my dream. I reunited five people and this made me very happy.

"I love doing my programme on Awaz FM and if I had another opportunity to help reunite many more families I would do it gladly."
