Fifteen-year-old Daniel Radcliffe might end up starring in the adaptation of "Birdsong", according to the book's author.
Sebastian Faulks has said that, since the film is delayed so often, by the time it is made the "Harry Potter" star may well be in pole position to play the lead role of Stephen Wraysford.
The book centres on a young Englishman who travels to France to learn the textiles trade in 1910, he returns as a soldier on the Western Front six years later.
Faulks said: "The film has been supposed to be happening for ten years now with Working Title, who have the rights.
"All the original actors are now too old - Ralph Fiennes and before him Daniel Day-Lewis.
"More recently they were talking about Orlando Bloom or Jake Gyllenhaal, but it's apparently not them either.
"By the time it gets made, the star of Harry Potter could end up being old enough to do it - is he a good actor?"
