After more than a month of not making public appearances, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un was photographed as he “gave field guidance” at a newly built scientists’ residential district. It is noticeable that in all his photographs, the 32-year-old leader was using a walking stick.
Some observers said that Mr Kim could be suffering from gout or problems in his hip joint.
KCNA, the country’s official news agency, reported that Mr Kim was briefed on the Wisong Scientists Residential District.
The agency added: "Looking over the exterior of the apartment houses and public buildings, decorated with diverse coloured tiles, (Mr Kim) expressed great satisfaction, saying they looked very beautiful.”
Although the news release was dated Tuesday, it did not specify on which day he made the visits.
During the controversial leader’s absence, he missed two high profile public events – the October 10 anniversary of the establishment of the Korean Worker’s Party and September 9th’s Foundation Day of the Korean State.
Jong-un took office on the death of his father, Kim Jong-il, in December 2011. He was quickly named head of the party, state and army.
