Princess Diana’s off-shoulder midnight blue velvet gown, the one she was wearing when she was photographed dancing with actor John Travolta in 1985, was sold at auction for £240,000.
The winning bidder, who remained anonymous, said that he bought the gown as surprise for his wife.
The dress is just one of Diana’s 10 dresses at vintage fashion auctioneers Kerry Taylor Auctions in London.
Auctioneer Kerry Taylor confirmed that the dress was bought by a man as gift for his wife. She said: “It was bought by a British gentleman who said he wanted to buy it as a surprise to cheer up his wife. I hope that the sale has really made someone's day."
The dress, along with Diana’s other gowns, were sold after her divorce from Prince Charles to raise money for charity.
The dress was first bought by Rorech Dunkel as a long-term investment.
However, she decided to exhibit the dress along with a number of others, to raise money for good causes.
