Prince Philip has had to miss a reception due to becoming ‘unwell’, Buckingham Palace confirmed. The Duke of Edinburgh was expected to attend a gala for the Royal National Institute of Blind People.
The event took place at St James's Palace, London, on Monday, 3rd June, and this was prior to the service being held to mark the Queen’s 60th anniversary of her coronation.
This service will be held on Tuesday, 4th June, 2013, at Westminister Abbey. Official bodies from the palace have said that Prince Philip is expected to attend the service on Tuesday.
A spokesperson from the Palace said: “The Duke is unwell but he will be at the service (Tuesday).”
It is understood that no further details have been given with regards to the Prince feeling ‘unwell’.
In regards to the gala for the Royal National Institute of Blind People, the likes of Michael Ball, the 50-year-old star who is well-known for the song “Love Changes Everything” among other achievements, and also Il Divo, the English opera group from Simon Cowell, performed on the night.
The Duke, who is 91 years old, attended the Epsom Derby event on Saturday at Epsom Racecourse. This is in regards to Investec Derby Day, which took place on 1st June.
Queen Elizabeth was aged 26 when her coronation took place. This was on 2nd June, 1953. Many people remember celebrating this Royal occasion.
