The Post Office has announced that it will begin to offer home and contents insurance alongside its loans and car and travel insurance.
The new home and contents insurance package is being promised to 98 per cent of applicants and pledges to save customers up to 40 per cent on their existing premiums.
A panel of 14 insurers will be used to provide a range of products.
Claire Oldstein, the Post Office's head of product development announced: "We believe Post Office Home & Contents Insurance offers real choice and value for money because of our panel approach.
"Most people don't bother to shop around for their home insurance and pay more than they need to."
The buildings insurance provides between 35,000 and 750,000 in cover - with a no claims discount of up to 35 per cent. The contents insurance provides between 15,000 and 99,000 of cover, also with up to 35 per cent no claims discount. Both come with legal liability cover of up to 2 million.
