Victoria Beckham has signed up to become a judge on 'American Idol'.

The former Spice Girl's publicist confirmed she will join the panel in a "one off appearance".

Beckham, a singer turned fashion designer, will begin filming for the show this week.

This is not the first time she has had a role on a hit American TV show. In 2007 she made a cameo appearance in 'Ugly Betty'.

Earlier in the week Paula Abdul confirmed she was leaving 'American Idol' after eight years as a judge.

Abdul announced she was quitting on her Twitter page where she wrote: "With sadness in my heart, I've decided not to return."

American Idol presenter Ryan Seacrest said he was "shocked and saddened" by the news of Abdul's departure.

Songwriter Kara DioGuardi, Randy Jackson and Simon Cowell will all return to the judging panel.
