Popular musicians to record track to raise money for Hillsborough families

On April 15th, 1989, 96 people were killed from the fatal crash at Hillsborough stadium during Liverpool’s FA Cup semi-final match against Nothingham Forest.

 

 

In a report published last month, it was concluded that if the emergency services had responded more efficiently, 41 lives could have been saved. 

 

Families of the victims are now looking for justice. To help them finance their legal costs, a host of British musician will unite to record the Hollies’ classic “He Ain’t Heavy, He’s my brother”.

 

Funds raised will go towards the victims families’ legal costs. 

 

British musicians who are participating include Robbie Williams, Beverley Knight, Mel C, Paloma Faith, and Mick Jones. The CD will be produced by acclaimed songwriter Guy Chambers and will be released on December 17th, 2012. 

 

“I am deeply honoured to be asked to produce this record for the 96,” Mr. Chambers told the BBC.

 

“If we can help to raise money to support the families' legal battle so that they finally get their time in court then our job will be done.”
