The International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery has revealed that there were more than 23million cosmetic and non-surgical procedures performed in 2013 making cosmetic surgery one of the fast-growing industries in the world.
Topping the list of nations in which cosmetic procedures are carried out is the United States with almost 4million people getting various operations. America was followed by Brazil with 2million.
Britain was not included in the top 10 but it ranked number 14 in the world. It has an estimated 865 plastic surgeons in business.
British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) has released its own figures earlier this year showing that the number of operations performed in the UK increased by 17per cent to 50,122.
Of all the procedures, Botox remains to be the most popular in the world. The toxin, which could be lethal, is injected to paralyse facial muscles to slow down the ageing process. Fillers, laser hair removal, and chemical peels are also in-demand.
When it comes to cosmetic surgery, breast operations rank number one with more than 1.7million operations performed last year. This is followed by liposuction, eyelid surgery, lipostructure, and rhinoplasty.
