Plans are unveiled to build Titanic number two

An Australian has revealed blueprints for Titanic II, which is expected to set sail in 2016

On Tuesday an Australian businessman unveiled designs to build another Titanic ship, which is expected to sail from Southampton to New York late 2016. The man with the plan is Clive Palmer, who intends to replicate the original Titanic liner with Titanic II.

Although, the modern version of the ship will contain modifications; including having more lifeboats and also air conditioning on board.

 

Mr. Palmer, who owns the company Blue Star Line, commented on the original Titanic saying that; “anything will sink if you put a hole in it”. He said: “I think it would be very cavalier to say it. I think people in the past have done that and lived to regret it.”

 

It is believed the set-up for the new ship will be very similar in ways to the original liner which sailed in 1912, as there will be no televisions for passengers to tune into. Also, the different classes will be divided, as was the case for those on board one hundred years ago.

 

Instead of having wooden lifeboats however, the new vessel will have modern boats that can cater for 2,700 people, as well as there being rafts to accommodate for 800 individuals.

 

Mr. Palmer’s creation will be able to hold 2,435 passengers and 900 crew members.

 

The original Titanic, which had 2,224 individuals on board, had 16 lifeboats which could carry 1,178 people. As a result of the liner hitting an iceberg on April 15th, 1912, reportedly 1,502 people tragically lost their lives.

 

The 1997 film Titanic, which stars Hollywood actor Leo Di Caprio (known for many films, including Quentin Tarantino’s recent flick Django), depicts the tragic tale of the most famous ship, the Titanic.
