'Friends' star Matthew Perry has split from his long-termgirlfriend, Rachel Dunn.

The hunky actor - who has publicly battled addiction to painkillers and alcohol - has reportedly promised his ex, that despite their break-up, he would stay sober.

A source told America's People magazine: "There was no drama involved in the break up, just a commitment by Matthew to stay focused on his sobriety."

Handsome Perry had been romancing the former fashion student since 2003.

Last year, the pretty brunette briefly moved from her New York home to be with her 35-year-old lover in Los Angeles.

Perry - who shot to fame playing Chandler Bing in the hit US sitcom and once admitted to taking up to 30 pills and drinking up to two pints of vodka a day - was rushed to hospital earlier this year after suffering a series of severe drug-induced seizures.

Emergency tests revealed traces of barbiturates, normally prescribed to aid sleep or calm anxiety.

He entered rehab a month later.
