Katy Perry has become the first artist to equal Michael Jackson's record of five US number one singles from a single album.
She is also the first female artist to ever have achieved the feat, which came after she topped the charts this week with her single Last Friday Night.
The other four singles - California Gurls, Teenage Dream, Firework and E.T. - are all taken from her second album, Teenage Dream, which now equals the record set by JacksonÂ’s mega-hit Bad.
After news of her record breaking achievement became public, the singer, who is married to comedian Russell Brand, tweeted:
"What a way to wake up! SO proud to announce that the little-engine-that-could of a song LAST FRIDAY NIGHT is officially #1 & made HISTORY!
“& u know, I couldn't have done it with out ya, really I owe u guys BIG... so take this moment to give yourself a high FIVE!!!" [sic]
After its release in August of last year, Perry's Teenage Dream album topped the charts worldwide, dominating the US Billboard 200 as well as the UK album charts and selling more than 2.2million copies.
