As the sun continues to shine across the UK, many women have started prepping their wardrobes with the latest bikinis and summer fashion trends.
But with the sunshine it isd essential to cater for the needs of your skin, especially on the face. And with many jetting off on holiday soon, there's no time like the present to revamp the old cosmetic bag.
Here's your beauty rulebook to get the perfect sexy summer look:
1. Lighten the load
Swap a heavy base foundation for a lighter tinted moisturiser this summer. It gives a wonderful sun-kissed glow while still hiding imperfections, without feeling the foundation melting off your face. Chose one with a sun protection of at least SPF15 to combat the early signs of ageing and sun spots. Apply with a damp sponge for even coverage and dab a little concealer under the eyes for extra radiance.
2. Dazzle in colour
Vibrant shades are the fashion statement to buy this season, as they move from the catwalk creations to the make-up bag. If you're daring, experiment with different coloured eyeshadows and/or liquid eyeliners - try bright purple on the upper lid, with a copper or gold on the lower line. For those a little less adventurous, you can never go wrong with neutral shimmers and pinks, but choose a peachy rather than blue toned colour.
3. Oi cheeky!
Flushed cheeks are always a winner and they're just as popular this summer. Brush a little bronzer on the forehead, cheeks and nose and then apply the pink to the apple of your cheeks. Always apply blusher from the apple of your cheeks towards your hairline, remembering to use lighter shades for paler skin. For an extra fresh, 'dewy' look apply a little cream blusher to the tip of your chin and temples to get an all over glow.
4. Make it waterproof
There is nothing worse than the bruised-panda-eyed-look you get from running mascara. Be sure to pick a good waterproof mascara if you're planning a beach holiday or heading to any weddings this season. For a more summery look, swap your black mascara for a black-brown or brown shade.
5. Lipsmackingly gorgeous!
Just like our skin, the sun can dry out our lips. Use a moisturising lip balm to keep them soft and kissable if it has sun protection, all the better. Show off a sun tan with natural pinky shades. Take inspiration from a bouquet of rose - from the palest pink to a vibrant fuchsia. Also full lips are important this season. If you don't have naturally plump lips lets face it, not many of us do you can cheat by using a stronger colour on the top lip and a lighter tone of the same shade on the upper one, or apply lipstick to the top and gloss to the bottom.
6. Nail it
Bold and striking nail polish will look great against your new summer glow. Remember toes too, but be sue not to pick a colour that will clash with your favourite pair of sandals. Make sure you don't neglect your feet either, especially on your heels. Use a pumice stone to get rid of cracked heels and soften the soles.
7. Tousle those tresses
A natural beach look will always appeal. Straighteners are out and natural waves are in! Leave hair to dry naturally, keeping frizz to a minimum with a good serum. Remember to protect your hair too the beach, pool and heat can do awful things to our hair condition, not to mention the colour. Caramel and blonde highlights will set of your tan perfectly too, especially around the face.
