A 51-year-old father, Nick Milligan and his youngest daughter Emily, eight died after their speedboat crashed off the coast of Cornwall. Meanwhile, the mother, 39 and her other children who are two, ten, and twelve years old, suffered a range of injuries and were airlifted to the hospital following the incident.
According to reports, the family from London was on holiday in Cornwall over the bank holiday weekend. Witnesses said that the family appeared to have lost control of the boat. They added that the family was thrown out of the water while the boat circled and eventually hit them.
A major rescue operation was launched using helicopters from RNAS Culdrose and RMB Chivenor. St Merryn, Newquary, and Polzeath coastguard rescue teams also helped in the operation.
Superintendent Jim Colwell of Devon and Cornwall police who described the incident as tragic, confirmed that it will be investigated by the Marine Accident Investigation Branch. He added: "Witness accounts will form essential lines of inquiry, and we will be submitting information to the coroner's officer in due course.”
