Ford has revealed that they’ve sold a whopping 4,115,000 Ford Fiestas in the 37 years since it was launched. This feat comfortably makes the Fiesta the top-selling car in Britain and the supermini segment as buyers started downsizing.
In the UK, it has been the best-selling car since 2009 despite the company not making a single car here anymore.
The first Fiesta came with 950cc four-cylinder petrol engine and it took over 17 seconds to get it to run to 60mph. Its top speed was a little over 80pmh.
The latest model features 1.0 3-cylinder 100 PS EcoBoost engine and it takes just 11 seconds to get to 62mph.
Ford’s Fiesta sales in the UK are predominantly higher-spec models, Zetec, Zetec S, Titanium, Titanium X and ST – with just 10per cent of buyers opting for lower ranked models.
In 1976, the entry-level Fiesta cost £1,865, which is now equivalent to £11,671. The Fiesta’s competitive price from new is definitely one of the reasons why it is now the king of the UK car sales.
