More than 400,000 individuals have signed a petition calling for Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson to be reinstated after he was suspended for allegedly trying to punch one of the show’s producers. He joked that he was “off to the Job Centre” as he was pictured leaving his London home on Friday.
The show has been put on hold after he apparently became involved in a “fracas” at the end of filming in Newcastle. Reports say that the incident stemmed over a 'lack of catering'. The Daily Mirror says Clarkson snapped when he discovered there was no food for the shoot.
A BBC spokeswoman said: "Following a fracas with a BBC producer, Jeremy Clarkson has been suspended pending an investigation.
"No one else has been suspended. Top Gear will not be broadcast this Sunday. The BBC will be making no further comment at this time."
Clarkson’s contract with Top Gear will expire at the end of the month.
Following his suspension, his fans and celebrities showed support via Twitter. Piers Morgan tweeted: "To be fair to #Clarkson, if my food wasn't ready at the end of a day's filming...I dread to think how violent I'd get."
