Oscar Pistorius admits in court he had "no reason" to fire fatal shots

The Paralympian insisted that he shot Reeva Steenkamp by accident but admits in court that he had “no reason” to pull the trigger.

Oscar Pistorius, who is being charged for the murder of Reeva Steenkamp, has spent a full day under gruelling cross-examination by prosecutor Gerrie Nel where he insisted that he shot Ms Steenkamp by accident. However, he admitted in court that he had “no reason” to pull the trigger on February 14, 2013. 

 

Nel said: "We know for a fact there were no intruders in your house that night, we know for a fact there was no ladder against the wall. We know for a fact that you had no reason to shoot, objectively speaking."

 

To which Pistorius answered: “That’s correct, my lady.” 

 

When asked why he fired shots on Valentine’s Day last year, he explained: "I heard a noise coming from the toilet that I interpreted as someone coming out to attack me."

 

"It was an accident."

 

Earlier, Nel talked about another charge relating to an incident where Pistorius fired a gun in a Johannesburg restaurant. Pistorius said that he did not have his finger on the trigger when the gun fired which begged Nel to ask: “The gun went off by itself?” 

 

He answered: "I didn't pull the trigger. I didn't have time to think."

 

Nel, staring at Pistorius, told him: "You are lying. You just don't want to accept responsibility for anything."
