Oscar Awards: Daniel Day-Lewis takes prize for Lincoln

Daniel Day-Lewis makes history at this year’s Oscars, after winning Best Actor for the film Lincoln

Actor Daniel Day-Lewis, who stars in Steven Spielberg's Lincoln, has made the history books after winning an Academy Award for Best Actor as he is the only man to have won three times.

Following his success, Briton Day-Lewis, said: “I really don't know how any of this happened. I do know I've received much more than my fair share of good fortune in my life.”

The Oscars, which were held in Los Angeles on Sunday night, also saw home-grown artist Adele (the “Rolling in the Deep” singer well-known for her album ‘21’) pick up a prize for the Best Original Song for “Skyfall”.

The award for Best Film was given to Argo, which was directed by Ben Affleck (who co-starred with Matt Damon in Good Will Hunting). The movie relates to an American agent helping to withdraw hostages from Iran who were taken at the US Embassy.

And Quentin Tarantino’s flick Django, which has been popular with many people, won Best Original Screenplay.

 

This follows a western theme and stars the likes of Leo Di Caprio (known for many films such as; Inception, 2010, The Beach, 2000, and the Titanic, 1997) Samuel L Jackson (The 51st State, 2001, Jackie Brown, 1997) and Austrian actor Christoph Waltz.

The award ceremony also saw Les Miserables actress Anne Hathaway, aged 30, collect a prize for Best Supporting Actress.
