BBC's commentary of Sochi Winter Olympics garners 300 complaints

BBC reports: "Viewers complained that they (BBC commentators) cheered when Jones's competitors fell, and that the commentary was of a low standard.

The BBC’s Sochi Winter Olympics coverage, began airing over the weekend picked up strong initial ratings of more than three million fans. However, not all of them were happy with the comments made by commentators Ed Leigh and Tim Warwood. It appears that their overly excited reaction has offended some viewers saying that the commentary was of low standard. 

 

The BBC reports: "Viewers complained that they cheered when Jones's competitors fell, and that the commentary was of a low standard. All three commentators began crying when it became clear that Jones had won a medal."

 

The Daily Mail added: "Angry parents also called for the BBC to take action after the commentators made vulgar sexual innuendos during the programme, which was broadcast on Sunday morning.” 

 

On Monday, the BBC has acknowledged the complaints and a spokesman for the network said: "This was a truly historic occasion for Team GB and the commentary team were understandably very excited. However we acknowledge that on occasion this excitement got the better of them and this is something that we will work on for future events."
