Dame Helen Mirren won British Theatre’s top acting award for playing the role of the Queen in The Audience. This is the first time Dame Helen Mirren won an Olivier Award although she was nominated three times before.
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, the adaptation of Mark Haddon’s best-selling novel by Simon Stephens, emerged as the most successful production at Olivier Awards, taking home seven awards. It matched the record haul by Matilda the Musical in 2012.
The Curious Incident team took home the following awards; Best actor (Luke Treadaway), Best actress in a supporting role (Nicola Walker), Mastercard best new play, Best director (Marianne Elliott), White Light Award for best lighting design (Paule Constable), Best sound design (Ian Dickinson), and XL video award for best set design (Bunny Christie & Finn Ross).
