Ofcom: 82% Brits get at least 2 nuisance calls weekly

22% of the calls are from claims management firms offering services to people who were mis-sold PPI.

According to telecom watchdog, Ofcom, 82per cent of the country’s population is being pestered by unsolicited calls every week. 22per cent of these are coming from claims management companies that are offering their services to people who were mis-sold PPI.

And 10per cent are for coming from firms convincing Britons to unlock money from their pension.

Based on the figures, the survey also revealed that 82per cent of Britons gett an average of 2.4 nuisance calls every week.

Due to the alarming results of the survey, OfCom together with the Ministry of Justice and the Information Commissioner’s Office, are going to investigate firms making the cold calls and are looking at handing down six-figure fines.

Claudio Pollack, Ofcom's consumer group director said: “We will use the full range of our powers to tackle abandoned and silent calls, but this is a complex area that requires joint action from a number of different agencies and government.”

Meanwhile Richard Lloyd of Which? said, as reported by the Daily Mail: “Ofcom's shocking findings reflect our own research and show just how many of us are being bombarded by the menace of unwanted calls and texts.”
