A recent study published in the BMJ suggests that obese men in their 20’s are less likely to live until they’re 50 to 55 years old.
The study, which was conducted by Danish researchers, revealed that obese men are eight times more likely to develop diabetes and heart ailment compared to their peers who have normal weight.
The study involved tracking the health of 6,500 22-year-old Danish participants for 33 years until they reach 55 years old.
All the men were born in 1955 and had registered with the Military Board where they were given fitness test to gauge if they’re fit to serve the military.
Of the 6,500 participants, 80per cent are with the normal range while five percent were underweight. There were 97 men who were considered obese.
Almost 50per cent of the men who were considered obese were diagnosed with high blood pressure, diabetes, heart attach, stroke, and blood clots in the legs or lungs. Some have died before they reached 55.
Researchers think that this study, which involved men participants, maybe also be applicable to women.
