North Korea plans to reopen its Yongbyon nuclear plant, it has emerged

North Korea has said it will begin its nuclear facility once again in Yongbyon, it has been revealed on Tuesday, 2ndApril. The news comes around six years after the plant was first closed following talks.
Plans to restart activity there include an uranium enrichment plant according to reports. North Korea’s aim to do this comes after tensions have been mounting with regards to the country’s nuclear programme.
It is thought that the reason for reopening the facility is because North Korea wants to use it for electrical as well as military use. However, this may lead to the US and South Korea wanting to pick up on talks with North Korea over its nuclear programme, according to some reported claims.
North Korea carried out a nuclear test for the third time in February this year. With this action, North Korea ignored comments from a number of other countries.
Pyongyang is the largest city in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (also called North Korea). In 1945 the Korean peninsula was split in two, with the Korean War beginning in 1950. Both North and South Korea are members of the UN.
