No space flight for Bowie

David Bowie has rubbished claims he is going to be on the first commercial flight to space.

The space obsessed singer - whose songs include 'Space Oddity', 'Life On Mars?', 'Starman' and 'Hallo Spaceboy' - insists the rumours he has already booked his seat on the maiden Virgin Galactic flight, pioneered by British businessman Sir Richard Branson, are "total tosh".

Bowie, 59, said: "This must be Branson going for some cheap PR."

Virgin Galactic's first passenger trip into space is scheduled for 2008.

Places cost £100,000 each and passengers must wear nappies and learn to endure G-forces of up to 300mph.

'Aliens' actress Sigourney Weaver and 'Star Trek' star William Shatner have both been invited to make the journey into orbit.

Other celebrities rumoured to want to be on the historic trip, include Robbie Williams and Tom Hanks.
