Surviving members of Nirvana, Drummer Dave Grohl, bassist KristNovoselic, and unofficial fourth member Pat Smear, have reunited together with Paul McCartney on vocals for a 12.12.12 gig for Hurricane Sandy victims.
A spokesman confirmed reports that Grohl recently asked McCartneyto join them onstage.
McCartney was a little stunned with the invitation saying, as reported by The Sun: “I didn’t really know who they were. They are saying how good it is to be back together. I said ‘Whoa? You guys haven’t played together for all that time?”
“And somebody whispered to me ‘That’s Nirvana. You’re Kurt.’ I couldn’t believe it.”
Nirvana and Paul McCartney joined other famous musicians at the New York City gig for the benefit of Hurricane Sandy victims. Performers were said to have includedThe Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Bon Jovi, Bruce Springsteen, and Alicia Keys.
The gig was also being streamed via radio, online, and cinemas across America.
