According to new research that was commissioned by holiday provider Club Med, British holidaymakers spend an average of 30 hours before they commit to a holiday.
The research added that these people browse at least eight different websites, talk to four different friends, and reads three travel articles ahead of booking.
Managing Director of Club Med UK, Eric Chauvet, said "Our expectations of a holiday are now a lot higher as people arm themselves with far more information before committing to going away.
"Finding out about other people's experiences at the same hotel or resort is now deemed essential before progressing with the holiday.
"People want to know everything they can to make sure the enjoyment of their holiday isn't jeopardised and the extent to which they'll prepare is clearly shown in our survey results."
The research, which was participated in by 2,000 holidaymakers, also listed the top 10 holiday variables that could sabotage a vacation and these are:
1. Cleanliness of rooms
2. Quality of facilities
3. Quality of food
4. Comfort of beds
5. Quietness of the area
6. Friendliness of staff
7. Distance from centre of town
8. Price of basic things - a pint, meal etc.
9. Proximity to beach
10. Distance from airport
