Healthcare in India is screaming out for change. Fortunately, today we already have the technology that can help hospitals and medical facilities in the country to deliver more in terms of value and improved care outcomes for the patient.
The immediate benefit of IoT for a hospital is in areas like asset management. Sensor tagged assets would be easier to locate in a hospital. This can save time for the doctor and staff as well as reduce the non-value add wait time for the patient.
Workflows can also be improved by IoT so patients get to spend their time in front of the doctor rather than waiting for their turn. Such minor change has been proven so many times to have a huge impact on patient engagement.
Integration of electronic medical record or health information systems, on the other hand, can be taken advantage of to improve remote health monitoring. With this technology, patients can be monitored from their home through sensor-enabled devices alerting doctors if immediate medical attention is needed. Such systems are already being used in patients with chronic conditions such as diabetes.
